At Speed Skating World Championships organized in China, Shri Anandkumar Velkumar clinched the country’s first-ever gold. The 22-year-old skater in the senior men’s 1000 m sprint Scripted History by winning Gold with a timing of 1:24.924, Thus making him the First Indian world champion in the sport.
Velkumar also secured a bronze in the 500m sprint at the same championships in Beidaihe, clocking 43.072s.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Anandkumar Velkumar for winning the Gold at the Senior Men’s 1000m Sprint in the Speed Skating World Championships 2025.”His grit, speed and spirit have made him India’s first World Champion in skating. His accomplishment will inspire countless youngsters”, Shri Modi stated.
