Indian Railways is set to revolutionize connectivity for Northeast India with the launch of a new Rajdhani Express service from Sairang in Mizoram to Anand Vihar in Delhi, commencing weekly runs from September 19. Announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this route 2,500 km in under 36 hours, boosting tourism and trade in the region. The train, featuring AC coaches and modern amenities, will halt at key stations like Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri, accommodating 1,200 passengers per trip. This development aligns with the government’s Act East Policy, aiming to integrate Northeast economies with the mainland. Mizoram Chief Minister hailed it as a “game-changer” for local farmers exporting tea and bamboo products. With Northeast rail projects under the ₹1 lakh crore Dedicated Freight Corridor, this service could reduce travel time by 10 hours compared to previous options, fostering economic growth in a state with 1.2 million residents.

PM Shri Narendra Modi While Inaugurating the Rail Link Quotes on X as “A landmark day for Mizoram as it joins India’s railway map! Key infrastructure projects are also being initiated. Speaking at a programme in Aizawl.”
