“Incorrect and Baseless”-EC on Rahul Gandhi’s Claim

In a sharp rebuttal, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on September 18, 2025, dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of systematic voter deletions using specialized software as “incorrect and baseless.” Gandhi, during a press conference in New Delhi, accused the ECI of enabling “vote theft” in Congress strongholds, citing 6,018 impersonation applications in Karnataka’s Aland constituency during the 2023 Assembly elections. He claimed a centralized software automated deletions targeting opposition voters, including Dalits, OBCs, minorities, and tribals, and alleged Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was protecting the perpetrators.

The ECI on X Handle Posted that the Allegation made By Shri Gandhi are incorrect and Baseless. The further said, Deletions cannot be done online and Mr BR Patil (INC) won the 2023 Elections. But however accepted that, in 2023 unsuccessful attempts were made to deletion of electors in Aland Constituency and accordingly an FIR is filed by ECI itself and matter is under investigation.

Mean while Mr. Rahul Gandhi has Given a 07 days Ultimatum for release of IP addresses of the perpetuators involved in the unsuccessful attempt.
