October 6, 2025 – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially announced the schedule for the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle across all 243 constituencies. Polling will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14, ensuring the process concludes before the current assembly’s term ends on November 22.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar unveiled the dates during a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan, emphasizing the ECI’s preparations following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls completed on September 30. The final voter list stands at 7.4 crore, including 14 lakh first-time voters, after adding 21.53 lakh names and deleting 3.66 lakh since the draft publication on August 1. The first phase covers 121 seats, while the second includes 122, with yellow and pink color codes on the ECI map denoting phases.
The announcement comes amid demands from ruling and opposition parties for minimal phases to boost turnout, especially post-Chhath Puja in late October, when migrant workers return home. JD(U) spokesperson Abhishek Jha expressed confidence in an NDA victory, while Congress anticipates fair polls. The elections follow the 2020 three-phase polls amid COVID-19, with 38 SC and 2 ST seats reserved.
Parties like BJP, RJD, and NDA allies are gearing up, with Rahul Gandhi’s planned August tour criticizing voter list issues. AIMIM’s “Seemanchal Nyay Yatra” signals independent participation. The ECI assured measures like aanganwadi workers verifying burqa-clad voters for inclusivity.
With Bihar’s political landscape heating up under Nitish Kumar’s NDA government, the polls will test alliances amid unemployment and migration concerns. The ECI urged voter verification via BLOs and helplines for smooth participation.
