In a move to honor the outstanding efforts of railway workers, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has sanctioned a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages, amounting to Rs. 1865.68 crore, for 10.91 lakh railway staff. This decision, announced today, underscores the government’s appreciation for the workforce’s dedication.
The PLB payment, a yearly tradition timed before the Durga Puja and Dussehra festivities, will benefit approximately 10.91 lakh non-gazetted railway employees this year as well. Valued at a maximum of Rs. 17,951 per eligible employee for 78 days’ wages, this bonus serves as a motivational tool to encourage staff to enhance railway operations.
The bonus will be distributed across various roles, including track maintainers, locomotive pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician assistants, pointsmen, clerical staff, and other Group ‘C’ personnel. This recognition comes on the heels of an impressive performance by Indian Railways in the 2024-25 fiscal year, during which it transported a record 1614.90 million tonnes of cargo and served nearly 7.3 billion passengers.
