New Delhi, August 1, 2026: In a major crackdown under Operation Vajra, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) Madhya Pradesh Unit has dismantled an inter-state network involved in the illegal manufacture and storage of counterfeit and narcotic drugs in Bihar. The operation led to the seizure of eight unauthorised medicine godowns and one illicit manufacturing facility in Gaya and Masaurhi (Patna).
The action is a significant follow-up to a case registered in 2025. Intensive investigations and intelligence gathering enabled the CBN to arrest the main accused on 22 July 2026. His interrogation provided crucial leads that guided subsequent operations.
Between 16 and 27 July 2026, teams from the Preventive Section of the CBN MP Unit, Neemuch, conducted sustained surveillance and field operations across Bihar. Officials discovered that the accused had resumed stocking illicitly manufactured narcotic drugs and spurious medicines in unauthorised godowns in the Khanjahanpur area of Gaya. After days of discreet monitoring, the team apprehended him.
Searches of two unregistered godowns based on his disclosures yielded 21,373 unauthorised Buprenorphine injection ampoules, along with large quantities of counterfeit non-NDPS medicines including Clavam-625, PAN-40, Betadine ointment, Azithral and other pharmaceutical products.
With assistance from local police, follow-up operations identified six more unauthorised godowns in different parts of the city. Substantial stocks of counterfeit and unauthorisedly stored non-NDPS medicines were recovered. The seized materials and sealed premises were handed over to the Bihar State Drug Administration for further action.
According to the State Drug Department, the following non-NDPS counterfeit medicines were seized from the illegal godowns:
- Tablets/Capsules: 439,774
- Injections/Vials/Ampoules: 1,895
- Syrups/Bottles: 3,811
- Other preparations (lotions, tubes, drops etc.): 3,490
Suspects later revealed that an associate (already in custody) had set up an illicit manufacturing unit at a farmhouse near Masaurhi in Patna. A joint search by CBN, local police, State Drug Department and Food Department officials recovered manufacturing machinery, equipment, chemicals and artificial flavouring agents. The entire unit was dismantled and the materials seized under the NDPS Act, 1985.
Earlier in the operation, four illegal godowns in Gaya had yielded 68,200 Tramadol tablets, 59,000 other tablets and 52,542 bottles of Codeine syrup.
Investigators found that the syndicate rented premises in low-income localities without formal tenancy agreements, paid rent in cash to avoid digital trails, and used mobile connections obtained through forged identity documents to evade detection.
In the current calendar year, the CBN MP Unit has registered 90 cases, including three illicit laboratory busts, and arrested 121 suspects. The Central Bureau of Narcotics reiterated its commitment to dismantling organised drug trafficking networks and enforcing the law against the illicit manufacture, storage and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
