Visakhapatnam, October 11, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a transformative milestone in its digital landscape as Minister for IT, Electronics, and Education Nara Lokesh lays the foundation stone for Sify Technologies’ ambitious 550 MW AI Edge Data Center on October 12, 2025. In an enthusiastic post on X, Lokesh announced, “Tomorrow in #Vizag, I’ll be laying the foundation for Sify Technologies’ 550 MW Data Center, a transformative investment that will power India’s digital future from our coast. This landmark project will bring cutting-edge infrastructure, thousands of jobs, and global tech partnerships. This will put AP firmly on the digital innovation map.”
This groundbreaking event, part of a broader surge in data infrastructure investments, positions Visakhapatnam as a frontrunner in India’s AI and data revolution. Sify Infinit Spaces, a subsidiary of the Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, is spearheading the project with an estimated investment of ₹16,466 crore (approximately $1.9 billion), approved by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) earlier this year. The facility, to be developed in two phases, will not only host an Open Cable Landing Station (CLS) but also create over 1,000 direct jobs and contribute to an ecosystem generating up to 50,600 employment opportunities in IT and related sectors.
A Strategic Leap for Vizag’s Tech Ecosystem
Visakhapatnam’s selection as the site for this mega data center underscores Andhra Pradesh’s investor-friendly policies under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership. The state has already secured commitments for 1.6 GW in data center capacity, with ambitions to scale up to 6 GW over the next five years—from nearly zero currently. Lokesh highlighted the government’s focus on sustainability, including dedicated energy infrastructure to meet the centers’ green requirements.
The Sify project complements recent announcements, including Google’s $6 billion (₹50,000 crore) 1 GW data center and Meta’s subsea cable Waterworth landing in Vizag. The 550 MW facility, one of India’s largest AI-focused data centers, will anchor an Emerging Technologies Cluster, attracting cloud providers, AI firms, and startups. It promises to generate thousands of high-skilled jobs in data management, cybersecurity, and software development, while fostering ancillary growth in logistics and renewable energy. Andhra Pradesh’s IT Policy 4.0 (2024–2029) offers incentives like capital subsidies, rental support, and customized packages, making it a magnet for such investments.
State TDP president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao praised the initiative, stating it aligns with the NDA government’s vision for technology-driven growth in north Andhra.
