Tri Services Academia Technology Symposium (T-SATS) Kicks Off in New Delhi, Pioneering Defence-Tech Collaboration

NEW DELHI: (September 22, 2025) The inaugural Tri Services Academia Technology Symposium (T-SATS) began today at the Manekshaw Centre, marking a groundbreaking effort to unite the defence, academic, and research and development (R&D) communities for crafting cutting-edge, future-focused technologies tailored for the Indian Armed Forces. The event was officially launched by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, with attendees including heads and directors from leading academic and R&D institutions, alongside students from 62 prestigious establishments such as IISc, IITs, IIITs, and private tech colleges.

In his opening address, General Chauhan underscored the evolving landscape of contemporary warfare, shaped by the fusion of kinetic and non-kinetic domains, which demands sophisticated, integrated tech solutions. He stressed the pivotal role of universities, startups, and industries in forging indigenous capabilities across platforms, weaponry, and networks to address future battlefield needs. Advocating for a nationwide collaborative strategy, he encouraged academic institutions to amplify innovation and position India as a frontrunner in advanced defence technologies globally.

The CDS also unveiled a Technology Exhibition featuring 43 innovative displays from academic contributors, assessed by subject matter experts from the three services for potential military use. Promising projects may secure future R&D partnerships and funding.

A key moment was the hosting of 95 structured one-on-one sessions between academic innovators and military representatives. These private discussions offered a forum for pitching R&D concepts and gaining strategic insights to transform ideas into practical military applications, fostering a productive partnership. These engagements will extend into September 23, 2025.

Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with nine institutions, including Ajeenkya DY Patil University, Gujarat National Law University, IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, MS Ramaiah University, Nirma University, Oriental Institute of Science and Technology, Rashtriya Raksha University, and the National Research Development Corporation.

Among the day’s sessions, the seminar on ‘Insights into Operational Contexts and Future Tech Requirements’ addressed the merging boundaries of traditional and emerging threats, advocating for mission-oriented academic partnerships. Another session, ‘Exploring the Academic R&D Landscape,’ emphasized establishing structured defence-oriented research systems.

Titled “Vivek va Anusandhan se Vijay” (Victory through Wisdom and Research), this pioneering symposium strengthens ties between the Armed Forces and India’s rich academic intellect, aiming to co-develop sustainable, strategic solutions for national security.
