Telangana Chief Minister Shri Revanth Anumula has directed officials to develop comprehensive plans to provide milk, breakfast, and lunch to students in government schools starting from the academic year 2026, with implementation set to begin in June. This initiative aims to elevate the quality of education and ensure holistic support for students across the state.
During a review meeting with senior officials of the Education Department, attended by government advisors Shri K. Keshava Rao, Shri Vem Narender Reddy, and Chairman of the Higher Education Council Shri V. Balakishta Reddy, along with other key officials, the Chief Minister outlined a transformative vision for government schools. He emphasized the need to surpass the standards of corporate schools by equipping government institutions with superior infrastructure and facilities.
Key directives from the Chief Minister include:
- Nutrition Program: Starting June 2026, government schools will provide milk, breakfast, and lunch to students to support their health and academic performance.
- Focus on Urban Core: In the first phase, priority will be given to schools within the Outer Ring Road’s core urban region to ensure effective implementation of the new initiatives.
- Enhanced Infrastructure: Every government school must offer playgrounds, adequate classrooms, and a conducive learning environment, matching or exceeding corporate school standards. The Chief Minister instructed officials to identify lands under the Education Department’s jurisdiction for developing such facilities. Schools lacking proper infrastructure should be relocated to nearby government lands where feasible.
- Pilot Project for New Schools: A pilot initiative will introduce new schools from nursery to 4th grade, designed to provide education with facilities comparable to those of corporate schools, ensuring a high-quality learning experience.
CM Anumula’s vision is to transform Telangana’s government schools into model institutions that foster academic excellence and holistic development. By prioritizing nutrition, modern infrastructure, and innovative educational models, these measures aim to create an equitable and competitive education system that empowers students and strengthens the state’s future.
