New Delhi, September 25, 2025 – The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in partnership with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), achieved a historic milestone with the successful test launch of the next-generation Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile on September 24, 2025. Conducted under a fully operational scenario from a pioneering Rail-based Mobile Launcher system, the launch marks a significant advancement in India’s strategic defense capabilities. The event took place at a designated test range, showcasing the missile’s potential to cover distances up to 2,000 km with state-of-the-art technology.
This groundbreaking launch utilized a specially engineered Rail-based Mobile Launcher, a first for India, designed to operate seamlessly across the country’s rail network without requiring prior infrastructure adjustments. The launcher offers exceptional cross-country mobility, enabling rapid deployment with minimal visibility to adversaries. Equipped with cutting-edge communication systems, robust protection measures, and self-sufficient launch capabilities, it ensures quick reaction times, enhancing operational flexibility in diverse terrains and combat situations.
The missile’s flight path was meticulously monitored by an array of ground-based tracking stations, confirming a flawless trajectory that met all predefined mission goals. The Agni-Prime, an evolution of India’s ballistic missile program, builds on the foundation of its road-mobile variant, which has already been incorporated into service following multiple successful trials.
